What works
A specific piece of work, a specific reason it is interesting now, and a specific claim you intend to prove. Two paragraphs is plenty.
What does not
General offers to 'write about art'. A link to a portfolio with no accompanying idea. Anything addressed to 'Dear Sir/Madam'.
